How was born Le Jardin des Chats ?

A real passion: cats

I grew surrounded with animals and I knew that one day my profession would be to work with them and for them. I was always fascinated by animals and in particular by cats and it is on the occasion of my own holidays and in the problem of guarding my cat that I had the idea to create Le Jardin des Chats. I did not wish to entrust it to my family or to friends because I did not want to have to seek them ceaselessly and Professionals can be attentive to it in case of problem. Close relations as parents, friends, neighbours do not necessary know the symptoms that a cat in case of disease can have and that it is necessary to detect as soon as possible to treat them. It is then that I inquired about the various modes of guarding which existed. I discovered four:

1 - The guarding at home
These societies propose that a person goes to your place of residence once a day during 30 in 45 minutes to feed your cat and change its litter for 12 - 15 € a day according to societies. I had studied this solution but I had not found it satisfactory because the price is too much raised with regard to the returned service. Furthermore during 30 minutes a day, the person does not have any time to take care of the cat and being attentive to its well-being. The cat needs a presence several times a day not to depress. So I abandoned this solution.

2 - Old persons who live at my home in my absence
These societies install pensioners in your place of residence during your absence. The cost exceeds 15 € a day. I did not want that somebody whom I do not know comes home during my absence and lives in my house, sleeps in my room as far as these persons who come from the other regions, often take advantage of their stay to visit the region and so have less time to take care of animals they have to custody. So I discard this solution too.

3-The families of reception for the holidays
This solution suggests leaving your cat in a family during your absence. The main problem is that the animal can escape to try to find it owners and not to find the house of this new family which it does not know. Of more these persons are not professionals of animals and so cannot realize if the animal is not well. The cost is about 12 à 15 € a day according to societies. I did not hold this solution.

4-The pensions
The aim is to leave your animal in a place adapted to its way of life, at professionals of animals. The price is generally included between 8 and 12 € a day according to establishments. This solution seemed to me the most adapted. But the pensions that I visited were not really comfortable for the greater part because cats were or in cage so they could not make of the exercises as their nature want either they were with dogs what makes the cat stressed because of the smells and the barkings. Even if he lives with a dog in his house, the cat does not bear the nearness with dogs which it does not know.

Having observed the functioning of these pensions, I said to myself that the ideal would be to find a place such as a pension held by professionals attentive to the well-being of cats but cats not being put under stress. So a pension which looks like at home! It is from this day that I decided to create a pension which would look like a hotel any comfort exclusively reserved for cats and conceived for their pleasure but without forgetting the budget of the owners.

From there was born Le Jardin des Chats, a unique concept of guarding:
– No cage
– Specialist cats
– An environment protected in a property in the middle of nowhere surrounded with olive trees, with almond trees
– Closed, fenced in and raised gardens so that they can make of the exercise and enjoy themselves, as aviaries
– Lofts totally isolated (as your house) to be for the warmth the winter and in the shadow the summer
– Unique in France: see the holidays of your cat with webcams
– An accessible price

The cat is oftenly a discreet anxious and needs an emotional environment and a space of life stimulating at the risk of developing behavioural problems (ethology) and sometimes compromising its health. Le Jardin des Chats reproduces this emotional environment which it needs to protect its balance.

It can seem disturbing to leave his cat in a pension with the other companions.

By learning to know the cat with compartmentalises veterinarians and also during the training for the obtaining my animal diploma of the pet specialization cats, I discovered that the cat is a territorial animal.
Indeed, the cat tends being aggressive or fighting when it defends its territory that is its house and it owners.

Except its territory, the cat becomes sociable and bears very well the presence of it congeners beside it.

A condition has to be respected for it: when you leave your cat in a pension, do not carry its personal objects such as pillows, toys otherwise it is going to defend its objects because they are a part of its territory.

On the spot, it will have all that it is necessary for its well-being: pillows, toys and of course at will hugs!
